Valve
The part of the head
that lets air into and out of the engine. You can see here
how it sits over the piston.
Valve
springs
The valve spring is a coiled spring that presses the valve
against the camshaft.
As the cam profile rotates 360 degrees, the valve is pushed
and lifts up, and the valve spring extends and contracts.
When the engine is running at 8,000 rpm, the valve spring
expands and contracts 4,000 times a minute
Valvetrain
All the moving parts in the head.

BMW cam timing control,
avaliable in continously variable or on/off. US E36 (92-99
3 series) are on/off; Euro E36 and E46 (00+) are continuous.
It does not adjust lift
like VTEC, just cam timing.
Viscosity
Basically, the thickness of the oil. Low viscosity oils pour
similar to water, while high viscosity oils pour like molasses.
The lower the viscosity, the less friction. Engines require
a certain viscosity oil depending on how modern they are and
how they were built. Most modern engines run very thin (low
viscosity) oil and older engines need thicker oil.
Warning
light
A feature on a gauge that will turn on a light if you go over
or under a set amount. You can choose the number. If you do
not want to go over 12 pounds of boost,
you can set the warning light to come on at 13 pounds.
Wet
kit
A nitrous kit that
injects fuel along with the nitrous. This kit is much safer
than a dry kit.
WHP
Wheel horsepower. The amount of horsepower that the car is
actually putting down to the pavement. This number is measured
by a dyno. It measures
the amount of power the engine makes after the transmission,
wheels, etc are rotated as doing so takes some power away.
This effect is known as drivetrain loss.
Wideband
An oxygen sensor that can read the exact AFR
and can be used to tune a vehicle.
WOT
Wide open throttle. pedal to the floor.
Zenki
Japanese term for "early" or "before change."
Usually is used when referring to a certain generation of
vehicle before they made changes to it. For example, the 95/6
240sx is zenki because they kept the same body in 97/8 but
changed certain features like the headlights and taillights.
The opposite term would be kouki.
